I recently had to do a system recovery on my computer. Now every time the computer starts and restarts, i get a black screen, with a 30 second countdown timer, asking me if i want to start in Windows XP Home Edition mode, or System Recovery Console mode. What is this? I tell the computer to start in the XP mode, but it keeps asking for every single start and restart since the system recovery went into effect and I reconfigured my computer. Is there anyone here computer savvy enough to advise me on this situation? Any advice would be most welcome (except the advice of chunking the computer out the window, which, by the way, has crossed my mind several times in the past few days)
Thanks in advance
Karen

I've had the same damn problem lately. I am pretty computer literate, but I haven't even fooled with it. I think I'm going to take a look at it and fix it. I'll let you know when I give it a try.

Thanks, I actually spent four hours with HP Support yesterday to get where I am now with a system recovery. they were helpful but I didnt realize this problem til today when I did all the setting up you do when you get the coputer fresh out of the box. I think I will try talking to them again tomorrow or Monday sometime.

I hate system restore. Frankly it is a poorly implemented system that attempts to restore your computer back to a configuration prior to having encountered a problem.
Turn the computer on, go to your My Computer icon (you can find it on your Start Menu if you don't have it on your desktop) and open it. Make sure your left screen isn't a tree of your computer but is System Tasks/Other Places, etc. Click on View System Information. Click on the System Restore tab in the new window. Check the Turn Off System Restore box. Accept the change and reboot your computer. This will take care of that screen but will disable the system restore which is actually better for your computer anyway.

The system restore was the last attempt to fix the problem before I did a complete system recovery. I tried several system restore points...3 weeks ago...4 weeks ago and 6 weeks ago; all should have fixed my problem but didn't. That left me with the system recovery. Now my computer is in the same condition as it was when I brought it home from the store. I have to completely reinstall Microsoft Office, Norton, WebRoot... pretty much all my programs...ttyl...Karen
