alot of people are going to say phantom but for a first time pumper stock clas isnt a good idea, id get a real nice used cocker pump.

a pmi tracer is just like (+-) a phantom, but it has an asa, & a feed neck for a hopper (some phantoms come like that to, but a tracer is way cheaper) & it has an auto trigger so you can rain a little paint if you want to.

A Sniper(Autococker) style pump would be the best way to start out. You can find them any where from $100 and up. Try looking on the PBN B/S/T forums, they have a lot of used Snipers there, or try Ebay. Ebay always has good deals on Snipers.

Phantoms actually have very few parts and are a much simpler design than a Sniper. When you're looking at different pumps, try to find a Sniper that has a CCM(Chipley) pump kit, these are by far the nicest pump kits around.

HPA would be nice, keeps it a little bit more consistent, which keeps your shots consistently accurate. Really the big thing to look for would be a Chipley pump kit and I would suggest you use a small hopper, like a BE pocket hopper.

Because they're fun to play with and build a lot of great skill. What's more fun than bunkering some 20bps rope slinging machine with your one balling Phantom?

Some of us just enjoy it more and some of us are just poor  . If you dont know why, you'll never understand unless you play with one some. See if there are any pumpers at your local field, or invest $20 on a PMI Trracer and give it a try, you'll soon see why. :)

Woah, so much so fast.

Repeat: Phantom, Sniper or Chipley all good pumps in that general range.

There is a difference between the Phantom and Tracer. Same general design very different in the quality area. Guess which is better. You can find more after market parts for the Phantom.

Why pump? Cheap and challenging. Started pump. Went back for the savings. Stay for the challenge. It keeps the game interesting even with a field full of new players. The lack of fire power also makes you think and learn to compete.

The better question would be "Why not?" :D But since you asked "why" I will answer with the best answer available... Because I choose to. ;)

id go for the phantom. theres is a part u can get that allows a hopper to be used. also, u can go to a pro shop and get a bottomline setup if u go a .45drip, which you should. if not, theres an adapter u can get for a bottomline on an m-16.
