View Full Version : Pump Paintball Guns?

I'm pretty new to paintball. I play with friends (about 5) on the weekends and stuff. I've been looking at some sections of this website and found that most snipers (which I'd like to be) prefer to use a pump gun because they're more accurate I suppose. I have a limited amount of cash to spare (around $200) and was wondering if I could get a descent pump gun that would work for a sniper in that price range. Or should I just stay with my semi-auto Victor II?

Thanks

First off, us pumpers use them mainly because of the change in game they allow us to utilize, not because we are "snipers". They aren't any more accurate than any other marker out there, they just seem that way because you have to actually aim and take shots that you know are going to hit due to your slower speed and fewer paintballs.

In that price range you can find a Tippmann SL-68 (there is one for sale by SpyderJava in the B/S/T forums below), PMI/Maverick Trracers, or a little more can get you a new Phantom or WGP SniperII.

thenewpainter, ummmmm yep ;) Have been for a while now or haven't you checked my sig or pics in the Marker Picture thread? :D

LordShiny, not a problem. It's a common misconception. You'll find that the majority of the paintball world doesn't believe in "snipers" because all paintball markers will shoot the exact same distances at the same velocities. So while some of us sneak around and utilize camoflauge we consider it just a way of obtaining our objective. "Sniper" is usually a term that new players use, with good reason, for our style of play :D

The above usage of Sniper is reffering to a marker built by WGP. It is the pump marker the Auto Cocker was developed from. It is the only widely accepted usage of the word in PB. Doorman briefly explaned why the other usage doesn't realy apply.

Using a pump would be a good idea. Since you're limited on money, it'll save you on paint and air and they're cheap to buy. I would suggest a PMI Trracer, Maverick, Hornet, they're all the same just different names. They're all under $100 and can usually be found with a mask, tank and hopper.
