I bought new lenses for my Profiler about 2 years ago. Nice new smoked ones, and some clear ones. The clear ones are the only lenses I own that have actually seen any action. The smoked ones haven't even seen the light of day except for me to bring them home. Neither lense has been used in almost 2 years.

My question is this: If neither lense has been cracked, and neither lense has been used in some time. I don't need to replace them, do I?

I ask because there used to be a rule of thumb that you replaced your lenses once a year, even if they aren't cracked. I assume that is with heavy use. And had I used either of them for any larger portion of the 2 years that I've been absent, I might not be so confused.

Sorry for the stupid question. Thanks for your time.

Yes and no. Replacing them every year is a good practice due to the affects that UV light has on weakening the plastic and the impacts they sustain. Mainly the cracks you are looking for are any hairline cracks around the edges of the lens. Profiler lenses are quite tough though and are less likely to crack around the edges.

The smoke lens that haven't been removed from packaging are fine. I would venture that the clear ones are going to be fine too. But the better question would be, are your eyes worth the risk? ;)

And as usual, Doorman comes through with the logical answer. I was leaning that way, but with gasoline prices on the rise, and the fact that I may have to take out a second mortgage to pay for my trips to work, I was thinking I may want to save a little money. Ah well, the amber lenses are the same price as the clear, maybe I'll try those out and see if I like them. :D

Thanks for the answer.

Wow... Talk about a thread resurrector.... If you'll note in my posts, neither lense is cracked... They've merely been sitting inside for a couple of years. No stress marks, no face shots prior to using them...

Now go away and be hostile to someone who cares...
