Maybe a few years, but there's newbie kids that go straight into tournaments. They don't really do that good, but they're playing in them.

well you should play enough to where you are comfortable playing in tournaments.

(I shouldnt of said that)

You should play some woods or just practice some speedball at your local field before you enter a tourny :)

tournament level paintball is vastly different from playing walk on paintball. the intensity level is different, the rules are vastly different, and you have a limited amount of time and players.

if you want to experience a tournament go for it. if after your first one you want to stick with it that is great. if not that is great also. you dont have to play tournament style ball to have fun.

me personally, i got my butt beat my whole first season of playing tournament style ball. i didn't have the skills nor the techniques to play. but i stuck with it cuz i loved the competitive side of it. i got lucky and eventually found a coach willing to put time and effort into me. eventually i got better. it took me about two years worth of tournaments before i finally won my first event. all that hard work and mundane drills paid off cuz the feeling of winning an event after so much hard work was worth it all.

most players will get their butts kicked and give up. some stick with it and find success. tournament style of play is not for everyone. as much as i love the competition of playing tournaments i still like to play in the woods with the walk ons every now and then just to have fun.

sometimes, you will feel a little burnt out from playing tournament style paintball. to succeed at it you will have to put forth the time and effort to keep your edge. cuz once you lose it, it is very hard to get back.

i love paintballing in all its forms. at times i will just go to a field and play with the walk ons just for fun...

i guess my best piece of advice is to just try it.

only thing im worried about is finding a team... none of my friends play

join one, if you pursue the road of a certain interest, you will find new friends that share in that same interest.

all my friends are paintball involved in some form or another.

if your friends don't play don't worry, if you continually go out to the fields you will find people that you can form a competitive team with.

when my friends gave me the lame excuse that they didn't want to play paintball i just went out to the fields by myself and eventually made friends that played paintball. eventually we all formed a team.

Young your posts bring warmth to my heart

I entered my first tourny with less than 1/2 of one years experience and in the beginers catagory and got second place and beat the first place in the first and only match in the finals but on the account of a flash flood we stuck to prelime scores

Our second tourny in young guns div we got 6th over all 2nd in young guns, because every one played every one so we played more experienced players, it was fun.

Our third tourny was last week end we entered the intermediat catagory and didn't place, but we new we weren't going to place so we experiemanted in our game plan :D, I'll have video of our run through 13 second game up soon.

So I have 2 second place finishes and 3 tournies under my belt with less than 1 years the key is practice, my team doesn't have a air ball field less than 2 hours away so we play on speed ball field made from apple bens.

So try it and keep with it and sucess you will acheive { words from master yoda himself }

dont listen to lockout
he's full of horse manure
ive been playing for 2 years (im the captain of the teem) and the only reason we placed was because my greatness was able to compensate for their woefully inefective gameplay. They did so bad at the last tourney, that even my greatness couldn't help them.

tourney play is totaly different than speedball, it's way more intense.
the first time i played we got wiped in like 15 sec. but after 3 games, guys started giving us pointers, and by the 5th game, we beat a team that was second place.

i think that the only way to really improve is to play guys who have a much higher skill level. go to your local feild(if they sponser teams) and play till yur fairly comfortable with your game. then talk to the owner or a ref, or something, and find out when their team practices, chances are they will let you come by once in a while to play. it's a great way to enhance you skills, because, not only are you forced to learn from your mistakes, but they will also most probably point out what your doing wrong, and tell you how to fix it. :)

in tenns any ways (i play tournement level tennis) the best practice you can get is in tournys. u may get murdered but u just better as u play mor tourneys. so go ahead and find a team. even if you get put on back up u still can practice with the team.
