not a newb = own at least 50% of the players you have shoot outs with, you go up front & get kills, understand your marker, and... just stop acting like a newb! also, dont think you are hot crap once you are "not a newb" anymore, ive played for 12 years, lots of tournies, and own almost everyone at my local feild. BUT i know how bad i would get (& have gotten) worked by real pros (thats why i play rec.)

how i play its when you do something really risky that wins the game i graduated from being a noob when i was sniping with my tippy 98c and jumped from the sniper tower and took out 4 people.

When you stop asking yourself if you are one.

if you think a marker is something you draw with... you might be a (paintball) newbie

if you shoot yourself in the foot during staging... you might be a newbie

if you ever took your gun apart and put your ball detent in backwards... you might be... me :o

feel free to add on

I think you nailed it maldon.
One more thing I want to point out is that a newbie is different than a n00b; a newbie is someone who is just new to the game while a n00b is that kid who shows up with a massive 10x scope on his tippmann "sniper kit." Generaly the ignorant poser type that thinks he is a pro without even stepping on the field sometimes. I, while still can be classifeid as a newbie somewhat, can pride myself in never being a "n00b" because I am always know that no matter what I will still always have much to learn and I never pass up a chance to do so.

You are no longer a noob when you are not afraid to play against people better than you.

You arent a noob when you obtain knowledge. You are not a newbie when you obtain experience. Both of which need to be more than just a little. You do not trash talk and then get wasted the next game.... every game. Your marker is reliable because you make it that way by caring for it and knowing how it works. You know what your doing while your on the field. You could make strategic moves and give commands if neccessary. You can lead and follow. You have played and are at least good at any style of play. Youve learned that Brass Eagle may make below par products but understand that they are a gateway for most to get into the sport. You aknowledge that this is a sport, both woods and speedball. You have utilized all the knowledge you can and dont try to show off this knowledge to try and impress people, because usually you just end up looking like an idiot if you try to. You understand that just because someone is using a pump doesnt necessarily give them a disadvantage. You look at others who have poor grade markers and instead of laughing at them, you try and help them with it, and offer ways they may be able to make money to buy a good marker, and point them in the right direction as to what they should get. You never know you might be helping out the next Bob Long. When you volunteer to be on the team with less experience to try and help them win a game. You see the kid that has a fancy marker that his parents bought him and he is talking trash and you either put him in his place, and try and tell him where he went wrong on the field, or you try and get to know him and help him really understand the game and that trash talking does nothing for his image or for paintballers in general. You try to promote politically correct terms such as eliminations instead of kills and markers instead of guns, when the time is appropriate (ie getting your friends mom convinced he should be allowed to play paintball, and any other time where you are representing this sport). When you realize it doesnt matter if you believe that there is or is not a paintball sniper, just that people are playing paintball enough to have an arguement about such stupid things. You try and promote the sport whenever possible. When you realize that companies arent neccessarily going to just give you a sponsorship because you have a team, but because of how good your team is and how well you and your teamates represent yourselves. When your comfortable enough to go to the field by yourself but would prefer to go with friends. Then maybe your not a newb/noob. But who knows Ive been playiong off and on for 10 years and I sometimes feel like a noob... But I always try to become better, and further my knowledge and hopefully get in better physical condition to either do this professionally or open a field and store of my own.

when u get a decent gun (timmy, ion, autococker, etc.) and when u can talk the lingo

u just proved u r a newby
1. ur gun doesnt matter.
2. timmys and ions are 2 totally different guns. timmys are actual high ends. ions are not real high ends. they are better than some but not "high end".

u my friend are a n00b

by this im not saying that i am really good on the field or anything but i do know alot about the markers and other things like that (thank you pbc).

well back on topic
you are know longer a newby when
a) you have 30 posts B)
b.) you are respected on the field based on your actuall playing, not what u say u can do

When your local shop askes you to be the capt of their team... jay/pea
prolly when you stop wearing 5 or six layers of clothes and you can play a game with confidence to move/do anything on the feild-even if it means sacrificing yourself for your team

when you dont just come on the field and stand behind the bunker...
when you dont call youself out because you are scared of getting hurt...
when you stop talking about owning people when you cant...
when you can work on your own gun, and diagnose most if not all problems...
when you can play competitively...

yur not a newbie when u can shoot the living daylights outa everyone around u and not get shot yurself for like 7 games

sniper set up:
special ops longbow complete
as much ammo as u think is enough (1 or 2 shots per oppenents if experienced
home made ghillie suit
a friend to back u up in fire fights
laser pointer(very cheap if taped to good scope)

rockets are cheap but effective so buy if faced with strong opposition

some interesting thoughts.

I been thinking (for like 2 minutes...). and i would say your not a noobie when you stop worrying (sp) about it. When you stop making up lies to make you not look like one. When you just go out on the field, play your game, and not feel like your playing to impress, your just playing your game and still getting people out.

Get what im saying? Your not a noob when you dont think you are. My first coach told me "if you just go out and play paintball, and play hard, and fast, and if it your all, like any sport, your not gonna look half bad"

If you are being yourself on the field and not making up lies or saying stuff and thinking in your head "i bet that made me look like i know what i am doing" then your not a noob.

i just started really getting into paintball and what i think a noob is when u go out and play a good game and have fun. i learn nething i can from people it also helps that i play with near pros. and im not afraid u get shot ur out u play again and look ur not dead so just be yourself and play ur heart out
