Sounds dangerous. The Co2 tank gets all frosty after shooting a bit, I can't imagine what would happen if you freeze the sucker. Plus, if you fill a tank beyond capacity, bad things could happen. You'd most likely only blow a burst disk, but why take the chance?

yeah i was at canadian tire to get my air filled, and there was this guy who gots his 9 oz. filled, and all of a sudden BANG! his burst disk popped right off and his tank started hissing and all this c02 started to come out, then he dropped it and it started spinnnig around and flying all over the ground. turns out they filled his 9 oz. tank with 23 oz.s. it scared the poop out o me.

The theory behind this is that if the tank is cooled the gas pressure above the liquid drops, this allows them to get more liquid into the tank. This is a VERY dangerous thing to attempt. Proper procedures for filling a CO2 tank include emptying it completely, putting a little in then releasing it quickly (chills the tank to get a proper fill), then filling the tank. Only so much liquid will go into the tank until the pressure of the gas equalizes and no more can be dumped in. There is also a required amount of head room inside the tank (free space for the gas to fill between the top of the tank and the liquid inside) for it to operate properly. Surpass this and you'll have problems. Fill the tank too much and you'll have problems.
Thankfully the burst disk will stop the tank from exploding and killing people!
