Anyone in this forum will tell you yes. It is the pump players forum. We are rather biased. :D
If you are just starting out and will be competing against other people using semis, you might want to stick to a semi until you get a good feel for the game. Trying to compete against semis can be overwhelming with a pump. The limitations can be very frustrating if you don't a descent grasp of the basics such as playing a bunker, snap shooting and how to move on the field. Most people that get into pump play have been in the game a while and enjoy the challenge of the limitations. A few can pick one up and deal with it from the begining.
If alot of people you shoot with are using pumps, go ahead and get one. The field will be pretty level and everyone will be dealing with the same limitations. Go with a semi to start out if you will be competing against mostly semis. You could go with both if your budget allows.
I believe everyone in this forum has at least one of each. Slinging paint from time to time is nice. Anyone that plays or wants to play tournies, just about needs to use a nice electro, unless they play for Blowfish. (Blowfish is a Stock Class pump team that competes in tournies at the national level)

I'm not sure. Been awhile since I saw anything on them. The last vid I saw of them had 7 pumps on the field. It was a NPPL last year.
Would it realy be a detraction from them if they did? How many players will even go onto a rec ball field with a pump let alone a field at a NPPL? That would still leave 5 with pumps.

Like my buddy SupersniperII, he used a Spyder once or twice. The rest has been his Trracer and Sniper style pump.

This kid is a mad baller with a pump. He played once or twice with a Spyder then got a Trracer. He's been doing a lot of speedball lately and is really doing great. He picked up on pump play like a baby picks up on eating. I will say, starting paintball as a pump player isn't for everyone, but if you're anything like this kid, you'll do fine.

I can't remember where I saw the link. I believe it was in the old PB.com forums. Someone posted the vid in the PB talk forum. I don't know if I will be able to track it down again.

im a semi/full auto mid player and i still think owning a pump is a good idea...theyre very accurate, shoot fast, and are easy to maintain

Shoot fast?

i am shotgun qualified. do you think that will help with ajusding to a pump.

sure will, unless it's stock class - the horizontal tube means lowering the marker slightly after each shot to get a new paintball into the feed. But if you're talking direct feed then yes, especially being able to aim fast without the aid of any optics of any kind (although you can use red dot sights).
You might also want a stock 'cause pumps are usually shorter then shotguns and unless you have a 12 gram co2, the bulk of the weight is at your end - in the air tank.
