The Stab is going to run you around $100, the stock Karni reg is a very good one. There's no problem with just getting the one you have working properly. Just sweetspot it out and you're all set.

It's actually pretty easy. You need access to a lot of air, paint, and a chrono.

Turn the reg down fairly far, so you are shooting a low velocity. Then shoot over the chrono and turn it up, take a few shots to even out the regulator and repeat the process. You will hit a point where your velocity gets as high as it will go and then it starts dropping off. Back your reg back down to the highest velocity you got out of it and you are all set.

Doing this with cockers is a lot easier than doing it with blowbacks. On a blowback you don't want to sweetspot the reg so much as match it to the springs. It takes a lot more work to do it this way, but it guarantees the most efficiency possible. You could do the same with a cocker if you really want to spend all that time taking the jam nut and valve back out to switch valve springs :D

If the reg isn't working the greatest, break it down and clean/lube it.
