heyall,

i useed to play paintball non stop. i stopped for a while until i got a job and all now. so i was wondering. i have $300 what gun should i get. is a revi still a good hopper? also how do you know if your reg. is adjusted right?

could i use an anti syphon instead of N2?

Welcome back.

Yes the Revvy is still a good hopper to have, but marker rates of fire have gone up in the last little bit and you may outshoot it depending on the marker you get.

Yes, you can use anti-siphoned CO2 as long as you are backing it up with a good CO2 tolerant regulator. But we are putting the cart before the horse here as we don't even know what marker you are thinking about....

As for the regulator question, do you have one already or are you asking for future reference?

There is a baseline for understanding how to setup a reg, but they really need to be adjusted on a marker to marker basis. Any air restriction you remove will end up lowering your total operating pressure. But here's a generic description....

There are two ways to setup a regulator. One is called "Sweetspotting" and the other is called "Zeroing". Sweetspotting Getting the regulator to maintain the optimum pressure for the design.
Uses a bell curve to determine this optimum pressure (which may be higher or lower than would be expected depending on marker design).
Adjust the reg down until it stops recocking, then turn it back up just until it recocks. Begin shooting the marker and turning up the regulator while at a chrono station. Record the velocities and keep turning up the regulator until the velocity starts to drop off. Once the velocity drops, turn the regulator back down until you reached the highest recorded velocity.
Zeroing A very accurate way to get the absolute most efficiency out of your marker.
The goal is to determine the highest possible velocity at the lowest possible pressure.
Make sure you are shooting at a chrono station. Record your velocities while adjusting the regulator up as if sweetspotting it. Once you reach the highest velocity, turn the regulator back down. Now switch out the mainspring if your marker uses one or adjust the dwell time if your marker is so equipped. Start the process of velocity checking again. Set your marker at the highest listed velocity while using the least amount of pressure.
Much more time consuming than sweetspotting, but it will squeeze every drop out of your shot to fill ratio possible. NOTE: Every time you replace anything in the marker that deals with the gas path, you must redo this process. You must redo this process every so often anyway as springs weaken if your marker uses any springs during its operation.
Hope that helps a little.

Definetly get an Ion, amazing guns. I'm probably newer to the sport than you are, but I've been out speedballing alot recently and it is clear that Ions are superior to all those other lower high end guns. You could also of course just get a nice spyder and stick some upgrades on it.
