I've played paintball three-four times.. (second time I was shot near my adam's apple, resulting in an immediate trip to the clinic... where they immediately checked my temperature first >_> ) all times using a (borrowed) semi powered by some air system.

This was in pseudo-woodsball.. an outlaw field with junkyard debris as well as fairly wooded area covering the majority of the eastern part of the arena.

Would you recommend me changing my focus from semi (fun) markers to pump in order to hone (necessitate) the acquirement of paintball skills? (aim + balls shot-to-hit ratio...)

well thats one of the reasons i want to switch to pump. you can learn those skills with a simi, its just a pump kindof forces you to learn those skills. a pump will most likely save you money because you use less paint and air and they are not very expincive to buy.

A pump is defiantely the best choice for a skill builder. They force you to play good or else you spend alot of time playing the dead box. And also they're fun to shoot semis out with. You can talk all kinds of junk after you just shot out like 5 semis. Go for it.

Go for it if you feel you can handle being out gunned.

It can be very frustrating if you haven't begun to master playing bunkers and snap shooting before you move to pump. You will spend most of your time out of the game if you try to get into the action and haven't developed those techniques.

There is nothing wrong with semi. I started playing pump mostly for the cost savings. I had shot semi for years before going back to pump play. I did notice a improvement in my game. I had to get better or get used to watching the last of the games from the sidelines. ;)

I play both semi and pump. Save some money, buy a pump, and if you want to swqithc on and off, borrow the semi again. I don't think i could go completely pump, because when I get frustrated, the e-blade comes out.

Being out gunned is one aspect a pump/stock player has to deal with. Being able to make up for the lack of fire power with learning how to move, working the angles, and snap shooting are just some of the benifits from playing with a pump. You'd really be surprised how much time you have during a game to analize all these components when you only have 10-15 balls at a clip to work with, it more or less forces you to think differently.

For now, I'm pretty much going to stick to semi. Pump seems pretty interesting; definitely something to try in the future. But for now I just want some messy fun.

My brother wants to get into the game soon as well, I'm thinking of being the benevolent, too-cool big brother I am and passing my semi down to him for his birthday + ordering a pump for myself then... heh; =.= he'd probably own me even if he had the pump.. the guy is crazy in CS.

Thanks for all the input.
