Testing without a chrono?

Hello all
Does anyone know of a decent method of testing a markers estimated velocity without a chronograph? I was just wondering because I know of a few people who have never had their markers chrono'd and they sometimes seem a little on the hot side. I heard somewhere that back in the day they would shoot at a tree and if the splat was bigger than your fist then the gun was probably hot. Is this true? :huh:

I have a method. A volunteer puts his hand over the barrel and shoots. one scream less then 200, 2-3 screams 200-250, 4-5 screams 250-300, if he will not shut the ###### up, over 300

I was reminded of the bark test for this. Shooting the marker at a tree and seeing if it took bark off... if so it was hot.

But honestly, if you are playing with a continual group of friends out in the woods just pick up a handheld chrono. They are very accurate and for an investment of $80 you can guarantee your safety and health!!!

Not that far away. When I first started playing we would do that to make sure it was fast enough. If it could rip off hunks of pinetree bark it was good to go.*SHUDDERS* Man we were retarted. Like Doorman said, get a handheld crono before you kill somebody.

it's not worth the risk. have your friends chipp in some cash and get a crono. i had one, then got pissed at it. theni threw it agenst a tree, then flew past my head and is now somewhere lost in a field.

Yeah, it's not worth it. $70 can be the differance between life, death, and serious injury on the paintball field.

I hate it when I'm at the field, get shot out, then the ref calls him out of the game to chrono him, and he's hot at like 300, 310, 320 while the field limit is 280. That's a damn big welt on my ######. <_<

I have my velocity all the way up you get hit you pay the price thats the way I play all my friends are wusses playing with pants and a sweatshirt I just wear a tanktop and shorts maybe I dont feel the pain because im Indian lol

How many times does someone need to point out the stupidity of your actions. Hopefully you are just spouting stupidity to get attention. I hate to think anyone would care so little about thier fellow human being or the sport of PB to do something so irresponsible as playing with the velocity all the way up not knowing or caring what it is. If you want to hurt people take up boxing. If you want to make headlines, find another past time to draw negative attention to, please.
