Lt. Bird is thinking buy a Mac. I disagree, sorry buddy. Where are you ordering from? Dell? I suggest you build your own. What are the price tags on those? I'm sure I could find you better parts for same price. Give me more specs.

get the AMD, AMD is better for gaming, where as Intel is better for multitasking, which is not needed in gaming

Amd X2 has dropped in price tremendously. Don't go with a Pentium D either. If you want true dual core, go with either the AMD X2 or the Pentium Core 2 Duo (just released). The X2 has been out for a bit so there are many MB's that support it well. The Core 2 Duo has just been released two days ago so MB's will catch up quick.
The only problem you are going to run into is when you go for memory. Both will run best on DDR2 SDRAM (preferably in Dual Channel) and you are looking at around $200 for a set of DDR2 compatible with either the AMD X2 5000+ or the Core 2 Duo chips.
Oh yeah, in case you are wondering.... the Intel Core 2 Duo absolutely SMOKES AMD dual core processors on the market!
