would a drop forward off a tippmann 98c fit on the ion?

It should. Inline holes usually are interchangeable through all types of markers except for those with offset (Spyders and some clones).

Don't listen to Muppet...he doesn't really know what he's talking about. Drop forwards are purely preferance. It all depends on what feels comfortable and natural.
