Is the PGP (http://www.paintball-discounters.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=2&p_catid=20&sid=5bW2dL1EwMRD2BT-08105553414.34) worth picking up for the occasional pump play? Or should I look at something else.

It is fine for occational pump play.
I never liked the 12 gram or the aukward (SP?) set up for reloading.
They shoot great, and, if you can deal with the 12 gram and reload, you will love it. Joeha does.
As pistols go, I preffered the Nelspot 007 over the PGP. You could slide a tube into the feed neck and with a side of the grip removed, quick change the CO2. PGPs are a little easier to find though.

I've never played with one so I can't really tell you if you should get one or not. I would get something more like a PMI Trracer for occasional pump days.

the old pgps (pre 2k) are said to be more efficent and sturdy. I ahve a pre 2k and love it, but have never used a 007.

I think they are fun, the original pgp's just look cool too. Brass barrel, a very well made piece of equipment, in my opinion.

To fix that you can just get the Faast Change from palmers and get the speed gate for the loading problem

This is true for the original pgp's, unfortunatelly for the pgp2's there are no upgrades available to my knowledge for the fastchange option yet. I had asked Palmers to just get me a new knob for the 12 gram and they told me none were available at the time...(this was awhile ago though).
