View Full Version : What's wrong with the stock barrel on the A-5?

I'm new to all this, and I'm considering purchasing an A-5. I've noticed that everybody always buys an aftermarket barrel for their gun. My question is, what's wrong with the stock barrel(specifically the A-5)? What are the advantages of an aftermarket barrel? Any comments for this newbie would be appreciated. Thanks, Adam

they are inaccurate and drop quick...my friend got an A-5 and his 14 inch progressive really makes a difference

At 8.5 inches long they're too short, they have bad porting (why in the middle?!?!?), and the finish on the inside is horrible. Overall it's a loud inaccurate barrel.

what is a good short replacement for this barrel. The 12 and 14" barrels are too long with the stock for a very quick movement in speedball, yes its a great marker but I want a second short barrel for speed ball

the barrel makes the gun to loud and it is short.

You don't want a stock in speedball anyway.

yea I realize that, but I have a stock on already, and the stock is tough to switch compared to the barrell.
but I'm using my Spyder Mostly right now for speed anyways.
just wanna find a better short barrell than stock for my A5 if I need to use it.
cause the stock is a B to get off

I would ditch the stock and just put a drop on it. In my opinion, stocks are for scenario players that want their marker to look like a real gun. Stocks will not give you any advantage in performance...if anything, they are a hinderance.

I mostly play scenario. Hence why I asked about a barrell. I have a 14" barrell on the A5 right now and it shoots beautifully.
Let me rephrase the question.
I want a shorter barrell for my A5 so I don't have to deal with removing my stock, that I use for scenario. What would make a good shorter than 12" barrell for a decent price, that is not a barrell back and front combo?
No offense, but I asked about a barrell not other mods

I'm not sure if these are any good, but they're shorter.

Get a flatline barrel

The ONLY way to go with a A5 is with a flatline barrel! For the $$$ it is the most affective upgrade you can put on an A5.
If I couldn't install a flatline - then I would get an A5-98 barrel adaptor and use the 98 CMI Thunder Pig(s) series of barrels. These are the best barrels I've ever used - I use the 16" on a 98 and it really is great just one step under a flatline. NEVER had a problem with this barrel! Since my son has used my 98 w/CMI he now got a CMI for his 98 and is happy!
As I've written here the 98 flatline requires a mod to insure it doesn't break/rip balls right at the end of the barrel. Tippman has finally HEARD us and done something about the basic flaw in the flatline design (they won;t acknowledge the flaw but then look at the A5 flatline design difference) --- the A5 flatline does NOT have this ball breaking/ripping design problem - it is HOT and works GREAT!
